Have you ever felt like you weren’t ENOUGH?

Do you even wonder if you are enough?

Let me tell you a little about myself. When I was pregnant my first child I realized I was NEVER going to be a perfect mom. I had a lot of self doubt that crept into my life. I struggled with knowing what was right for my daughter and our little family. I relied heavily on others in my life to tell me what was right and what was wrong. Sometimes they gave me great advice and other times…well, it wasn’t the right advice I needed for my family.

I relied so heavily on other’s thoughts and advice, that I didn’t trust myself and my instincts as a mother. I ended up copying what everyone else was doing, which wasn’t necessarily the way I would have done things if I was being authentic. This led me to a very dark place. It not only affect myself, but my family as well.

When my oldest was 4 years old I had my second baby and we moved to Texas shortly after he was born. After we moved I think I had pushed my husband to his limits and he said enough is enough. We went through counseling, where we learned a lot about each other but more about ourselves. I learned that I could be a great wife and mother by being ME! I didn’t need to be like my friends that pretended to be perfect moms at church or on social media. I was enough!

Do you know how much relief this was for me to learn? Learning to trust myself was the best thing I ever did! I know I am not a prefect wife or mother, but I am doing my best and I know my kids and husband love me for who I am.

Why am I telling you all this?

I am telling you this because I want you to do things different than I did. I want YOU to trust yourself and your instincts. You know what is best for you, your baby and your family!

I have seen and worked with many women who doubt their ability to be a great mother. They feel like since they didn’t read all the pregnancy and parenting books or didn’t go to all the classes that they aren’t ready to be a mom. Well, let me tell you… you don’t need to do it all to be a great mom.

Even as a first time mom YOU know what your baby needs. YOU will learn what each of your baby’s cries mean very quickly. YOU will know how much and how often to feed your baby. YOU will know when your baby isn’t feeling good. YOU will know what makes your baby happy. YOU will know what to do, I promise! YOU are the BEST mom for your baby!

I am not saying that things aren’t going to be hard sometimes and that you wont ever need help or advice from others. What I am saying is that YOU need to trust yourself! If you can’t do this it is going to be a long hard journey. You don’t want to look back on this journey later in life and see all the joy and fun you missed out on having because you decided not to be the mom YOU were meant to be.

As a labor and postpartum doula it is my goal to help women realize they are ENOUGH during pregnancy, birth, postpartum and beyond.
